In June of 2009 we found ourselves in remote northern Wyoming, fishing and filming with the crew at Rock Creek Anglers.  The area is off the beaten path, but that’s what we wanted – because as most trout anglers know – the further from civilization the better.  The fishing was stellar, we fished numerous small creeks that were filled with healthy wild trout – and the hatches were amazing. At any given time there were drakes, various species of stonefly, hoppers, caddis – everything – flying around and hitting the water. One of the best sessions of the year!

In June of 2009 we were touring the west shooting for our new film, Off the Grid, and stopped for a few days to fish with buddy John Huber from Ketchum on the Fly.  We ended up fishing Silver Creek for a few days and had some awesome action. On the first morning we arrived to find a nice mayfly hatch coming off. John hooked a little brown that almost became a meal for a big brown that showed out of nowhere.  We spent the evening fishing one of the thickest caddis hatches of the season… epic.

In October of 2009 we headed to Mexico to film at Casa Blanca and Playa Blanca Lodge, in hopes of creating a segment for the Fly Fishing Film Tour.  Over the course of 10 days we (cameramen Joey Macomber and RA Beattie) documented a group from Ketchum on the Fly as they searched for Bonefish, Permit, Tarpon and Snook on the fly.  We had a great shoot and captured stunning media of Bonefish, Tarpon and Snook, but the Permit eluded us…

In December we had an opportunity to return to the lodge to finish the shoot. Again, things looked bleak as a bad northern storm pounded us all week.  On the last two days of the trip, however, we were granted a bit of sun and a break from the wind and were able to get out on the flats.  During this time Casa Blanca’s Eric Carvalho landed a beautiful Permit on film, then went on to land one of the largest Snook I have ever seen.
