We spent much of the summer of 2009 chasing hatches across Colorado, collecting content for our new film Off the Grid. This video is a collection of some of our favorite shots from the summer. To learn more about our new film, click here.

In October of 2009 we headed to Mexico to film at Casa Blanca and Playa Blanca Lodge, in hopes of creating a segment for the Fly Fishing Film Tour.  Over the course of 10 days we (cameramen Joey Macomber and RA Beattie) documented a group from Ketchum on the Fly as they searched for Bonefish, Permit, Tarpon and Snook on the fly.  We had a great shoot and captured stunning media of Bonefish, Tarpon and Snook, but the Permit eluded us…

In December we had an opportunity to return to the lodge to finish the shoot. Again, things looked bleak as a bad northern storm pounded us all week.  On the last two days of the trip, however, we were granted a bit of sun and a break from the wind and were able to get out on the flats.  During this time Casa Blanca’s Eric Carvalho landed a beautiful Permit on film, then went on to land one of the largest Snook I have ever seen.

We are currently shooting and editing our new film titled “Off the Grid.” Shot in Mexico, Alaska, British Columbia, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Florida and a few surprise locations.

This fly fishing film is about places that are off the beaten path.  It is about people that live the fly fishing lifestyle, not to be a name, but because fly fishing is part of their soul. It is about unspoken hatches, unknown fish, and Rivers that will go unnamed. This new film will be available on DVD in July 2010. About the DVD:

It has been over five years since we started filming fly fishing around the world.  It has been an amazing journey that has taken us to the ends of the earth.  You may have seen portions of our footage over the years in film festivals such as The Fly Fishing Film Tour or The Drake Magaine’s 5 Minutes of Fly Fishing Video Awards.  But we’ve never released anything anything of length to the public… until now.

British Columbia based fly fishing guide Todd Scharf talks spey casting and fly fishing for salmon and steelhead in British Columbia.

We took the day off from redfishing the other day and spent a few hours fly fishing on a nearby lake, chasing bass. They’ve been schooling up these days, crashing balls of shad and other bait fish. The scene is reminiscent of tuna hitting bait on the surface – and while the fish are not huge – it is very visual and exciting sport… Angler: Chris Hamilton.

During the fall of 2009 I traveled to southeast with my family. We explored a number of tributaries in search of silver salmon (which should have been in at this time), but found the rivers full of pinks. Despite the lack of silvers we had a fantastic time just watching the pinks gather in the small tribs and do what they came to do. Truly stunning country. About a week after we returned to the lower 48, I got phone call saying the silvers had arrived… and this is fishing.
